Department of History

Under the patronage of Professor/ Reda Sayed Ahmed, the dean of the faculty, and Professor\ Maha Abd Elateef Elsegeeny, Vice-dean of the faculty for higher studies and research; the department of history held a symposium on Tuesday 10/3/2015 under the title "Pastoral Peoples in East Europe in the Middle Age". The department hosted Prof. Eshtephan Zemony Professor and head of the department of history and Turkish language in the Faculty of Arts in the Hungarian University in Sagd. This university is internationally chosen as one of the best 500 universities around the world. Prof. Eshtephan Zemony is a lecturer in many universities specially in Austria, Germany, Turkey, Russia, and Azerbaijan. He also gave many lectures in accredited councils, research institutions, and international universities..

      The department also hosted  Prof. laasloo Bee Nag from the Faculty of Arts in the Hungarian University in Sagd. He is a professor of Current History of the Arab Nations specially those of North Africa, and the relations between the Arab nations and the Eastern front in the twentieth century. He enriched the library with more than 185 books and important scientific researches. He received the most eminent awards and medals in Hungary and France..

     Prof. Wessam Abd Elazeez Farag, Professor of the History of the Middle Ages in the faculty, also participated in that symposium. Staff members in the department and a group of students attended that symposium..

Date of Establishment

The department of history was established in 1979 as one of the departments in the Faculty of Arts Mansoura University..

  About the department

At  the beginning, the department depended on the staff members from the department of history, Faculty of Education, Mansoura University. All of them were shifted to the Faculty of Arts to be a stone of the department in the faculty. A year after year, the department began to grow and increase in the numbers of its students and its staff members in different branches (Old History, Islamic History, History of the Middle Ages, Modern and Current History.).

 A number of professors occupied the position of the head of the department since 1979 till now:

•       Professor/ Fransees Abd El-Malek Ghattas.  

•       Professor/ Ali Mohamed Barakat.

•       Professor/ Hussien Abd El-Raheem Eleewa.   

•       Professor/ Talaat Esmaeel Ramadan.

•       Professor/ Ali Mohamed Hamed Shalaby.

•       Professor/ Wessam Abd El-Azeez Farag.

•       Professor/ Samy Ahmed Abd El-Haleem Emam.

•       Professor/ Abd El-Mageed Abo El-Fotooh Badawy.

•       Professor/ Wessam Abd El-Azeez Farag "Second Period".

•       Professor/ Farouk El-Saeed Gebreel as the dean of the faculty.

•       Professor/ Reda Abd El-Gawad Raslan.

•       Professor/ Reda Sayed Ahmed.

    And now Professor/ Shalaby Ibrahim El-Geedy is the head of the department.

Mission of the department

      The department aims to enrich the student with variable historical knowledge which is necessary to understand the reality of the human existence in its past and present to look up to the future. Also,it aims to help the student to know the past of his/her nation and its civilization to save the local knowledge and the Arab Islamic identity.

     The student also acquires, during his/her period of learning in the department, the skills  necessary to cope with the modern attitudes in historical scientific research. The department prepares a qualified academic generation capable of serving the society and fulfilling the needs of the work market.
