Geography Department
The Geography Department is one of the leading departments accompanied the establishment of the faculty of Arts. It has two branches: The first branch is the general branch which has been established since the department's establishment and the second one was the maps and survey branch which was established in the academic year 2001/2002. As a response to the development of the study which the department witnessed, a laboratory of maps was established. This laboratory contains a large group of maps and meteorological instruments of climatic and cadastral conditions. Also, it has been provided with the latest equipment through the geographical curricula development project which was presented by HEPPF (Higher Education Enhancement Project Fund). A geographical information systems unit (GIS) was founded according to the decision no. (19) dated 24/1/2007 of the minister of education and the state for scientific research and the president of the supreme council of universities. The study in the department is characterized by field studies of selected areas from Egypt which are carried out by the students of the four batches under the supervision of the faculty members in the department and their assistants to provide students with several skills which cannot be available in the classrooms.
Date of Establishment:
The geography department was established in the academic year 1979/1980 and its first batch was graduated in 1984.
