Department of Greek and Latin Studies 

 

About the department :

              The Department of Greek and Latin Studies was established at the Faculty of Arts, Mansoura University, in the academic year 1992/1993, then the university council issued a decision in 1999 to suspend the working of the department after the death of  Dr. HelmiAbdel-Wahed Khadra, due to the lack of faculty members after his death. This freezing continued for five years until the study in the department was resumed in the academic year 2005/2006Lafter the completence of the faculty members.

Mission :

1.To provide students  with the knowledge  of the origins of European studies and develop language skills.

2. To focus on the origins of human studies and their role in development.

3. Toencourage (to exhort) the use of modern techniques in teaching methods and scientific research.
 

 4. To employ the intellectual and educational potentials through studying the origins of European civilization and languages in serving society and human culture.

5. To respect ethical and aesthetic values in education, scientific research, and community service.

6. Developing the acquisition of European language skills through knowledge of it’s origin.

 

 

Vision :

The department aims to   :

1.Qualify  students with a scientific qualification(scientifically)   that includes students' knowledge of ancient European civilization, Greek and Roman culture, Greek and Latin (the mother tongue of modern European languages).

2.  Provide the student with modern Greek and Italian languages, the two main languages of the department.

3. Develop students' language skills through training on ancient texts and on how to translate them to read the historical and religious texts.

4.Provide students of the department with the opportunity to continue the section or literary fields taught by the department.

5. Improve the level of quantitative and qualitative teaching performance for faculty members and their assistants in the department.
