Launching the activities of the first training course for the Students for Climate initiative at Mansoura University

in Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Faculty of Arts, Mansoura University, hosted the activities of the first training course for the Students for Climate initiative “What are climate changes, causes and confrontation” within the framework of the university’s implementation of sustainable development and Egypt’s vision 2030Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, and led by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meligy, Vice President of Mansoura University for Community Service Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Attia Al-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Tariq, Vice President for University Affairs. Postgraduate studies and research, supervised by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Suleiman Al-Jaidi, Dean of the College of Arts and Prof. Dr. Mosaad Salama Mandour, Vice Dean of the College of Arts and Coordinator of the Initiative and Chairman of the Climate Committee at the UniversityAnd in the presence of Prof. Dr. Wael El Borai, Vice Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Suhair Waheed, Vice Dean of the College of Arts for Community Service Affairsvalley. Metwally Abu Saree, Vice Dean of the College of Agriculture for Community Service, Dr. Muhammad Rashwan, Head of the Central Administration of Dakahlia Institutes, Vice Dean of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and His Eminence Sheikh Al-Sayed Muhammad Mansour, Vice-Dean of the Dakahlia Al-Azhar Region, Prof. Dr. Wael Abdullah, Head of the Geography Department, Prof. Dr. Shahdi Al-Khawaja, Executive Director of the Survey and Mapping Program and Dr. Walid Al-Saadi, Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser, Faculty of Arabic Language in Mansoura, and many faculty members at the college

Present during the first day, Prof. Dr. / Ayman Al-Omari, Vice Dean of the College of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. / Mosaad Salama, Vice Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. / Samah Hafez, Vice Dean of the College of Commerce, Dr. / Ahmed El-Kenawy, Department of Geography, College of Education.

During his speech, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Jaidi talked about the importance of the initiative and the definition of climate change and how to deal with it, indicating that there is a great demand from university students to participate in the training course, as more than 500 students from various faculties registered in the symposium. A group of professors and specialists in the training course will lecture Climate Change, Mansoura University.

 

Prof. Dr. Mosaad Salama referred to the nature of climatic changes, the elements of climate change, the reasons for changing solar radiation, temperature, and the rest of the climatic elements, then he put forward some simple ways that students can contribute to modifying the local terrestrial albedo of homes and roofs of houses, and how students contribute to reducing greenhouse elements. The glass is related to the habits and practices of simple daily life, such as planting balconies, using air-conditioning water, educating colleagues and family about car repair, reducing the use of charcoal in grilling, reducing smoking, spreading agricultural waste for drying in the sun before storage, and other simple methods.Prof. Dr. Samah Hafez emphasized the importance of the green economy and does the environment affect the economy or vice versa? She also talked about the phenomenon of global warming and the financial crisis that occurred in 2007-2008 and its impact on the economy and the environment, the Corona pandemic crisis, how to adapt to the economic situation, how to achieve a green economy, waste management, and the use of clean energy.Prof. Dr. Ayman Al-Ghamry added that there are ancient climatic changes and there are emergency changes, their causes and effects on plants, how to deal with them, reduce desertification and drought, and how to deal with solid waste.And Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Kenawy added that the main objective of the training day is to raise awareness of university students about the issue of climate change (its causes - results - how to deal with it - students' role in adaptation).And that's the basic stepTo raise awareness is to correct the misconceptions associated with the issue of climate change and whether we live in a world of changing climate or we live in an era of "climate changes" and whether the current climate changes are a link in a series of changes that the world has witnessed since the beginning of creation or is it an emergency situation associated with this era.
